Description Dan Callaghan 2014-03-30 22:00:10 UTC
Can you please branch python-requests for epel7?

I can become co-maintainer on the epel7 branch if you need some help.

Comment 1 Arun S A G 2014-06-29 05:26:43 UTC
Package Change Request
======================
Package Name: python-requests
New Branches: epel7
Owners: sagarun
InitialCC: sagarun

Comment 2 Erik Johnson 2014-06-29 05:49:36 UTC
Can you please modify this SCM request and add the el5 branch as well? If you do not wish to maintain it on that branch, then I can file an SCM request and own the el5 branch.

python-requests will be a required dependency for the next release of Salt (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/salt/).

Comment 3 Arun S A G 2014-06-29 19:46:48 UTC
Hey Erik,

RHEL 5 comes with python 2.4. I'd like you check the compatibility of python-requests and dependent libraries for python 2.4. I don't think python-requests support python 2.4. Please verify it and let me know.

Comment 4 Arun S A G 2014-06-29 19:51:04 UTC
Ofcourse, i could be wrong, i just want to verify that we have support exists in the package.

Comment 5 Erik Johnson 2014-06-29 21:33:17 UTC
Arun,

I should have been more clear, I was looking for a build of python-requests that depends on python26 from EPEL.

Comment 6 Gwyn Ciesla 2014-06-30 12:15:07 UTC
Git done (by process-git-requests).

Comment 7 Erik Johnson 2014-07-02 21:17:19 UTC
Arun,

It looks like this will require a branch-and-build for urllib3 in order to build this for EL5, as well.

Comment 8 Erik Johnson 2014-07-02 21:29:58 UTC
If you do not wish to maintain it for EL5, I can handle this, because as I mentioned earlier, it is a required dependency for the next feature release of Salt.

Comment 9 Anssi Johansson 2014-07-06 10:49:46 UTC
CentOS 7 (and presumably RHEL7 as well) comes with python-requests, so having python-requests in EPEL7 is unnecessary.

Comment 10 Arun S A G 2014-07-06 22:45:56 UTC
Looks like it does include python-requests for centos 7. The version there is very old https://git.centos.org/commit/rpms!python-requests/refs!heads!c7 , should i retire this branch?

Comment 11 Dan Callaghan 2014-07-06 22:49:21 UTC
Yes according to the package list at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/epel7 python-requests is in RHEL7 now, so it should be retired/removed from EPEL7.

Comment 12 Arun S A G 2014-07-06 23:08:46 UTC
Mistakenly (In reply to Dan Callaghan from comment #11)

python-requests (epel7) $ pkgdb-cli orphan --retire python-requests epel7
user: sagarun changed point of contact of package: python-requests from: orphan to: orphan on branch: epel7
You are not allowed to retire the package: python-requests on branch epel7.

I mistakenly retired the master branch (fedora-devel) is there any procedure to unretire it?

Comment 13 Arun S A G 2014-07-06 23:17:10 UTC
Never mind, i figured it out. The release engineering tickets are #5936 and #5937

Comment 14 Ralph Bean 2014-08-20 15:25:38 UTC
Should this ticket be closed?

Comment 15 Erik Johnson 2014-08-20 15:47:04 UTC
It looks like it can be. The epel7 branch was orphaned, I adopted it.

Comment 16 Arun S A G 2014-08-20 16:43:06 UTC
(In reply to Erik Johnson from comment #15)
> It looks like it can be. The epel7 branch was orphaned, I adopted it.

You don't need to adopt epel7 branch. The package is already available from centos/RHEL repository. So We do not need to maintain requests on epel7 branch.

Comment 17 Erik Johnson 2014-08-20 16:53:14 UTC
Ahh, so it is. I forgot about those comments. Apologies, I have been working on a LOT of packages lately. :)

Comment 18 Ralph Bean 2014-10-28 16:31:31 UTC
Closing this since it seems to be resolved.
