#39 Flock Paparazzi
Closed: pushed 6 years ago Opened 10 years ago by duffy.

The photographers who've been uploading photos of Flock as the conference continues on have been amazingly helpful for us remotees and bloggers. Documenting a conference via photography and uploading the photos in a timely manner is hard work! They should get a badge for it :)

Ralph's kinda down on this one without a way to determine it automatically, he doesn't want to be handing it out manually forever. One idea is to have an official Flock photos page or account on some photo service and have that use FAS names and have fedmsg track that, but we couldn't see any vaguely plausible way to just track random hashtags and whatever. So setting the 'external requirements' field.

Artwork concept: badger taking a picture of several other badgers? (to distinguish it from the 'photographer' badge, which can just be a camera or a badger taking a picture)

Set triaged to 'yes' for all tickets, as I've hit them all already.

just put types back in, we'll try and handle bugs here too, no new trac.

We should be able to do something in a cron job to award this, like:

search the G+ api for anything with "Fedora Flock"
of all the activities we get back, drop anything that's not an image.
if hand_wavy_magic_condition, then
award the badge to hand_wavy_magic_way_of_mapping_a_g+_user_back_to_FAS

Looks great! Fantastic job on the artwork :)

Okay, the g+ script works proof-of-concept style.

I need to add flickr support too. When its done we'll throw it in a cronjob and push this badge live.

Can this be re-run since it appears to no longer be in production. As flock just ended we can probably catch almost everyone at this point.

It's actually still in production, just super wonky. If anyone would like to try and fix the script to catch more people, it would be much appreciated. I just don't have the time to dig into it at the moment.

Instead, I'll try to award the badge manually to anybody who posts a comment here in this ticket. Please link to the photo(s) you uploaded as "proof".

What problems is the script having, specifically? Is it failing to use the APIs? Is it failing to match people to FAS accounts?

G+ doesn't seem to be returning all photos tagged flock, fedora, or flock2fedora. Some people are just left out of those results.

hmm. G+ is not something I use. I know that my Flickr photo didn't get picked up.

Do you think you're seeing the same thing there or is there a misfire on my match to FAS?

I believe the 'official' hashtag for Flock is actually #flocktofedora , and the script doesn't appear to search for that at all. It's not #flock2fedora . #flocktofedora is what the official twitter feed uses - https://twitter.com/fedora - and I'm pretty sure I've seen 'official' Flock posts advising people to use that hashtag.

I published one picture (but important one) https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/101037668634273622518/albums/6045569800833821121
I can't publish the others or some of my fellow fedoristas would kill me :)

There may be more, but I'm unaware of any others at this time…

Hi all,

Just noticed something minor on this badge. It seems it does not match the style guidelines for Events badges with the purple outline. Would someone be able to make a quick update to the artwork? I can push up the updated artwork without having to make any edits to the badge.

This still seems a bit of a hacky solution, looking at the old script. I think it's still hit or miss whether we can effectively automate this, without building some sort of app for people to actually upload photos to.

For now, I'm going to close this ticket as complete and mark it as a manually awarded badge.
